Artist's Comments

A popular story tells that Cristopher Columbus, after discovering America, was criticized by a Spanish nobleman, who insinuated that he did not such an accomplishment, since many other people could have done the same. Columbus did not answer, but challenged instead the nobleman to make an egg stand on the table, without any kind of aid. When he gave up, Columbus gently tapped the egg on the table, to flatten its tip enough to make it stand.

A smart and polite way to mean that anyone can do what someone else did before, since the idea is more important than the exploit.

People's opinions are just that, opinions, make sure your opinion is the one you take the most heed of.

I :+fav:'ed this more for the concept than anything else. That story is new to me, but I have to say that I agree with it completely.

Especially as a physicist: you'd be surprised how many so-called scientists ignorantly claim something to be "impossible" simply because they have a very narrow precept of how things should be done. In psychology, it's known as "fixation."

assuming attitude and narrow perception are the cause of most troubles in any field. i'm particularly happy you agree with the concept... so, thank you for your comment (and again for the :+fav:)
