The major glacier of Monte Bianco (Italy/France), called Mer de Glace (Ice Sea). Its highland extends at about 3600 mt of altitude and descends, along the valley on the left, to the neighborhoods of the town of Chamonix (France). In mid-springtime it is skiable in its entire length, a great trip (with some caution and a guide) even for non super expert skiers. On the right, the steep cliff standing above the Val Ferret area (Italy).

On the bottom right corner, some tents are clearly visible: brave alpinists camp and spend the night there, to be ready for climbing peaks in the very early morning. By the way, three alpinists are coming back, on the very left of the picture.

The thin peak just right of the center of the image is called Dente del Gigante (Giant's Tooth), due to its shape, and it is one of the highest peaks in Europe (4014 mt).
